Photography and Sightseeing:The LaRue-Pine Hills Research Natural Area is a nature lover’s dream offering beautiful colors during the fall, budding and blooming plants in the spring and opportunities to photograph many species of reptiles and amphibians along the “snake road” at the base of the 350 feet bluffs during their spring and fall migrations.

Hunting: The area is abundant with white-tail deer, wild turkey and squirrels. LaRue Swamp is a resting place along the Mississippi flyway for ducks.

Winter Use: Mild southern Illinois winters allow visitors the opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors without heat, humidity and pesky insects.
