Capital of Illinois and one-time home of Abraham Lincoln, Springfield is parts political center and historic hub, well-stocked with museums and Lincoln sites.
If you exit Dotsero at I-70 and go 1.5 miles north on the Colorado River Road, this is where you'll end up. The gravel-top Coffee Pot Road is the main access to the Flattops Wilderness Area and connects to Transfer Trail near Deep Lake. It is a snowmobile route in winter. As an off-roading route, it's leisurely easy.
